New Silk Yarn from Isager
Jul 22nd 2026
Getting to visit the home of Isager Yarns was a experience of a lifetime, and now one of the best parts of the trip has arrived in the shop: we are so pleased to introduce Isager Mulberry Silk Yarn.
Isager Mulberry Silk is a delicate, 100% silk laceweight yarn that adds softness and elegance to any project. When knitted together with other yarns, it adds a beautiful sheen, extra softness, and a cool touch.
The incredible Isager shop manager, Birgit, gave a charming and informative talk about piling. Essentially, if a yarn is soft, it will pill. If it is a high quality yarn, then you can expect it to de-pill it a couple of times, after which the shortest fibers will have all been removed and the piece will wear beautifully. To help prevent piling, Birgit mentioned holding soft yarns with another yarn. She described how not all fibers are friendly with each other, but when you find a pair that get along it will make each of them stronger and more beautiful than they were apart.
(If it isn't apparent, I could have listened to her delicate accent and her anthropomorphizing of yarn for days. Birgit is a national treasure.)
I share this to say, Mulberry Silk is a soft yarn, and knit alone it will pill. But we encourage you to not let that deter you from this extraordinary yarn. Here are just a few of the lovely combinations designers have already tried; the possibilities are truly endless.

We loved the first iteration of Bluebell, knit in Isager Soft Fine at an open gauge on a size US 7 needle. Even with "Soft" in the name, it pales in comparison to the softness achieved by holding Mulberry Silk with Silk Mohair! This dream combination creates a cloud-like fabric that will carry you through all seasons. The color combinations are so much fun, you can pick matching colors, create tonals by adding mohair in a lighter or darker shade, or go full marl with contrasting colors.

What if instead of softer, you wanted more structure? Adding Mulberry Silk to Trio 1 or Trio 2 provides both a strong foundation and a soft silky sheen. The Isa Raglan Tee combines Trio 2 and Mulberry Silk in complementary colors, and we are in awe over the crisp stitch definition and the drape of this fabric.

Helga combined Mulberry Silk with Merilin, and when you add textured stitches to that combination you get this squishy soft fabric with lovely definition and shine. Helga's patterns are meticulously drafted with an exquisite end result in mind, and the Pearl Tee is no exception. During class with her one day, she reflected that she likes to look at each stitch, each shift in the fabric, and think "how could I make that look even better?" And the effort is obvious in her designs.
