We've recently received several new titles from one of our favorite companies, Laine Publishing. You might be familiar with Laine Magazine, which has been published since 2016. Each issue includes patterns from leading knitwear designers, insightful, long-format stories from the world of wool, interviews, seasonal recipes and strong, visual storytelling. In addition to publishing their coveted magazine, Laine also publishes books on knitting, crafts, food and lifestyle; read on to explore some of our recent favorites.
The beautiful Laine 28 spring issue, Open Water, takes you on a boat trip to the sunny Baltic Sea: to sun-warmed cliffs, rocky beaches and balmy pine forests. The photos have a lovely retro touch, adding to the easygoing vibe. This abundant issue features 15 knits from international designers. You will find T-shirts and tops worked in summery yarns, as well as sweaters and cardigans that double as outerwear in the warmer months.
Included in the articles, you'll meet Finnish knitwear designer Ronja Hakalehto, who balances a busy family life in a small village near the Arctic Circle while drawing inspiration from wild nature and solitude. Within Issue 28's pages you'll also visit the beloved Stephen & Penelope yarn shop in Amsterdam, and find style inspiration with Aleksandra Solowianiuk. The issue includes Laine's Favorites section, filled with inspiring short stories, tips, products, reviews and ideas. In the Five Ways feature, four experts share their favorite tools and notions for knitters.
The Island and the Forest: A Knitted Correspondence is an exchange of letters and knitwear patterns between two Swedish designers: Erika Åberg and Lotta H. Löthgren. This beautiful hardcover collection includes 12 patterns designed to be timeless and practical. The chapters in the book flow through the four elements and the shifting seasons. In their letters, Erika and Lotta reflect on both the little things in their life and the big questions.
