Shetland Shades Launch Day!

It's Finally Here! We have been anticipating this book since Gudrun came to teach with us last Spring, and it is even better than we imagined!
Shetland Shades: Stories in Wool is a collection of vests and accessories, but it goes much deeper than the patterns themselves. Two of Gudrun's close friends model with her, and the photography (taken by Jonna Helin) makes it feel like you are walking the same bluffs with old knitting friends. Interspersed throughout the book are essays about colorwork, steeking, and of course Shetland yarn. We can't wait to cast on our first project, and have highlighted some of our favorites below!
One of the first designs we saw is still our favorite; the Hap Quilt Vest is a lovely blend of knitting and sewing. The traditional Hap Shawl is a favorite of Gudrun's, and these small versions piece together in a delightful way... plus are a great way to use up some scraps of yarn!

Not just for Fair Isle, Spindrift can also be used to create lovely rustic marls! Gudrun selected these colors to reflect the hues of the rock ledges in Shetland, but you can have fun creating your own unique marls for the Skelf Vest!

Of course no book of Gudrun's would be complete without a traditional Fair Isle vest, and Hairst neatly fits the bill. Gudrun includes a section of tips and tricks for colorwork selection that might come in handy for this vest, as would the Jamieson's of Shetland Color Card!

As you might imagine from all the colorwork she knits, Gudrun has an abundance of leftover scraps of yarn. Vaddel was included as a mindless project that could use up these bits and be a perfect travel project. There are multiple colorways shown in the book, but this is a terrific place to use what you have and play with color!
