If you've been keeping an eye on the "hot right now" patterns on Ravelry, then you've likely already seen (and loved) Gudrun Johnston's newest pattern. The Riggies Vest debuted this week, and we're already over the moon about it. This vest is worked entirely in garter stitch in four separate segments, and then joined together with Three Needle Bind Offs. The back and front are identical, and the garter stitch ridges will sit vertically when worn. The Riggies Vest pattern comes with links to a detailed video tutorial that offers an overview of the vest's construction, how to make modifications and step by step instructions.

The shape and construction of this vest creates more of a poncho-style slipover with deep armholes and shaped shoulders. Gudrun's sample is shown above in Size 2 with 3" of positive ease at chest, and was knit with Jamieson's of Shetland Double Knitting Yarn. We love this rustic, traditional Shetland wool, but our current Jamieson's DK stock is fairly limited - so we've also pulled together some other yarn recommendations for you to choose from.

Another great yarn option for the Riggies Vest would be Rosa Pomar Brusca. Brusca is a DK weight breed and flock specific yarn that is non-superwash and not bleached. It's a rustic blend of 50% Saloia and 50% Merino Branco and Merino Preto non-mulesing wool from free range sheep. 

Each 50g ball of Brusca has 136 yards, and at only $9.50 per ball, it's a fantastic price point (and the most economical of our Riggies Vest yarn recommendations!).
