The 7th Annual Sock Challenge is Here!
Nov 21st 2024
Next week one of our favorite designers, Andrea Mowry, is hosting her annual Fall Knit-a-Long Challenge. This quick 4-day KAL happens over Thanksgiving weekend, and we're excited to join in and try to speed knit our way through a pair of Andrea's new Oxbow Socks. We have a few staff members planning on participating, so read on for their favorite sock yarn recommendations!
These ankle length socks are knit from the cuff down, using a heel flap and gusset to shape the heel. The Oxbow Socks are the perfect mix of a relaxing yet engaging project with lovely texture. The pattern includes sizes for the whole family and instructions to knit them in either fingering or sport weight yarn. You can find more info on this KAL in the Drea Renee Knits Ravelry discussion board here and purchase the pattern here.
Sarah will be casting on her Oxbow Socks in The Fibre Co Amble yarn. Amble is a fingering weight yarn made from a blend of eco-friendly, washable wool and alpaca for comfort, as well as recycled nylon for strength. Amble is named to reflect slow, relaxed walking especially for pleasure - which we think is just perfect for a sock yarn. We currently stock full sized skeins of Amble in 20 colors and coordinating mini skeins in over 30 colors, giving you endless options.
Sarah is shown above with her Oxbow Sock color choices; Ergemont for the main, and a mini skein of Catbells for the toe.
Kriya will be casting on her Oxbow Socks in Murray & Co. Yak Sock. This yarn is a soft, smooth 4ply made with a blend of yak, Merino wool and nylon. Yak Sock features a heathered gray base that's beautifully hand dyed right here in Oregon, with a variety of earthen colorways perfect for a Fall Sock KAL.
Kriya is shown above with her Oxbow Sock color choice; a stunning speckled hue called Sand Dollar.

Christina will be casting on her Oxbow Socks in Madelinetosh Twist Light sock yarn. This hand dyed, ultrasoft blend of superwash merino wool and nylon provides fantastic stitch definition, making it a great choice for the Oxbow Sock pattern. She's also adding a contrast toe using a Coats & Co. Prairie Sock Yarn mini skein.
