Springtime Daydreams
Feb 12th 2024
Lately we find ourselves daydreaming about spring knitting and all that it entails; soft details, warm hues, light lacey patterns and floral colorwork motifs. Fingering weight yarn is perfect for working up garments and accessories to wear on those spring days when the sun is out but there might still be a chill in the air.
Quince & Co Finch is a supple fingering weight yarn with the slightest of halos. Soft to the touch yet with neatly twisted plies to give it a smooth, tailored finish that is sturdy and hardwearing. This yarn is perfectly balanced for an even stockinette stitch, and you'll love its versatility and how well it shows off texture and lace patterns. Finch is a 100% American wool that comes in 50g skeins, which makes it a fantastic for colorwork and striped projects. We currently have over 25 colors in stock, so you're sure to find your perfect spring inspired palette.
FEATURED PATTERNS (clockwise from top left):
Baked Clay by Alicia Plummer, Imogen Tee by Carrie Bostick Hoge, Gill's Rock by Paula Emons-Fuessle
Are you a lace knitter? We love how beautifully Finch works up in lace patterns. This yarn has fantastic stitch definition that really makes delicate and intricate patterns shine. We know the process of knitting lace can seem a bit daunting, but we think the Baked Clay fingerless mitts from Alicia Plummer (featured top left) are a great one skein project to try out this rewarding technique.
FEATURED PATTERNS (clockwise from left):
Alpine Bloom by Caitlin Hunter (sample by Ravelry user suziespaperplain), Stria Hat by Andrea Mowry, Birkin by Caitlin Hunter
Our staff here at Websters have a lot of love for Fair Isle knitting, and the Alpine Bloom by Caitlin Hunter (shown above, left) is at the top of our list for casting on. This top down lightweight tee features a sweet lace neckline and Scandinavian-inspired floral colorwork yoke. We think it would be just perfect knit up in Quince & Co Finch paired with Spincycle's Dyed in the Wool for some unexpected colorplay in the yoke.
We also love Birkin, another Caitlin Hunter sweater with a springy floral yoke (shown above, bottom right). This beautiful colorwork classic was originally featured in Laine Magazine Issue 2 but has recently been reworked to include expanded sizing. Birkin was inspired by springtime in Scandinavia, and an image of a young Jane Birkin wearing a crown of wildflowers. The pattern recommends knitting this sweater with 4 contrast colors, and we encourage you to play with the many hues of Finch yarn to make the flowered yoke one-of-a-kind.
