Maker's Gonna Make

Our shop is located in Oregon, and we love to support fellow members of our PNW fiber community - so we were thrilled to hear about the newest make-a-long from our friends over at Spincycle Yarns. The Driftwood MAL runs from Aug 22nd to Nov 24th (more details below), and to participate you can knit/crochet any of the stunning patterns from the Driftwood Collection using Spincycle Dream State yarn.
We've got our eye on the jaw-dropping Paulie Cardigan by Amy Christoffers (featured above). This beautiful sweater is worked in an allover mosaic stitch, and features a motif based on a traditional quilt block. We plan on knitting this using Spincyle Dream State paired with Tumalo Fibers Ghost Town Worsted. This soft, squishy yarn is made with sustainable Shaniko wool and hand dyed right here in Oregon. We've only got a small supply of the featured colorways (Honey and Afternoon Delight), but fortunately the whole palette of Ghost Town Worsted is gorgeous, so there's lots more to choose from!

Another eye catching project from the Driftwood collection is the Amu Hat by Olga Buraya-Kefelian. This hat offers a fresh take on the iconic ribbed hat aesthetic, and uses 2 colors to create a reversible hat that features vertical striping on one side and marled horizontal striping on the other. We recommend choosing the colors Levitate and Freezing Drizzle to achieve the look featured above, but really any combo of Dream State and Ghost Town Worsted would be beautiful.

One of our staff favorites from the Driftwood Collection is the Hozho Cowl by Jennifer Berg. This pueblo-style pottery inspired cowl features a stranded colorwork floral motif, and uses some interesting techniques for those of you looking for a little knitting challenge. This piece starts with an i-cord cast on, and then uses short rows and stranded colorwork knit flat to achieve the kerchief style shape. We recommend choosing the colors Wololo and Yogurt to achieve the look featured above - you'll only need one skein of each to complete this project.
