Knit a Riggies Beanie with Us!
Mar 21st 2025
We're so excited for our upcoming retreat with Gudrun Johnston that we decided to host a quick knit-a-long featuring one of her original designs! The Riggies Beanie KAL will kick off on March 27th with an in store cast-on party, and run until April 17th.
The Riggies Beanie, designed by Gudrun Johnston, features Jamieson's of Shetland 2ply Spindrift Yarn (our favorite 100% Shetland wool!). We chose this fun hat pattern because of it's interesting construction and endless potential color combinations - we currently have over 200 colors of Jamieson's in stock!!
Instead of a traditional 'knit in the round' hat, Riggies is worked up by knitting four flat garter panels which are then seamed together with a 3-needle bind off. This unique pieced together design allows for tons of color play, and is a great way to elevate your knitting skills with lots of easy short rows.

When choosing colors for your Riggies Beanie, you'll have some decisions to make before you cast on - perhaps you're going to knit a solid hat? Or maybe you want to go bold and knit each of the four segments in a different color?
You could even opt for just a pop of color by knitting your 4 hat panels in one color, and working the three needle bind-offs in a contrasting hue. No matter what colors you choose, we encourage you to have fun, and knit a Riggies Beanie that is truly unique to you!
The Riggies Beanie pattern is one size, and the recommended yardage is 230 yards - this means you'll need 2 balls of Jamieson's of Shetland 2ply Spindrift Yarn to complete this project (or more if you want to incorporate multiple colors!).
