Handknit Holiday Inspiration
Nov 4th 2024
Have you started your handmade holiday gifts yet?! Don't worry, we haven't either - but it's definitely time to dust off those needles and get making. Whether it's a quick hat or a cozy cowl, there's something that feels extra special about giving when it's handknit and from the heart.
In preparation for holiday gift making, we've restocked our favorite quick to knit yarn - Malabrigo Rasta. This super bulky, single-ply is 100% Merino wool; meaning it's oh-so soft, and it works up fast on a range of needle sizes (US 13-19). Our newest Malabrigo shipment arrived with FIVE new gorgeous Rasta colorways to choose from (shown above), as well as all of your old favorites. To get you inspired we thought we'd share some of our favorite hats and cowls for this season, all of which require 1-2 skeins and work up quick. That means if you start now, you've got plenty of time to knit one for every special someone in your life!
The Time After Time Cowl by Elizabeth Smith is a soft and oh-so-squishy cowl featuring a slip stitch rib pattern that looks great on either side. This pattern includes instructions for two sizes: a long, 2-color infinity style like the one featured above, and a 1-color short neck warmer style (not pictured). Fast and fun, this cowl is an enjoyable, relaxing knit and makes a great gift-making project for all knitting levels. If you plan on making the infinity style featured above, you'll need 2 skeins of Rasta in complementary colors.
*For a limited time, we'll include a free copy of the Time After Time cowl pattern with your purchase of 2 skeins of Rasta - just leave us a note at checkout.
The Winterfell 2.0 Beanie by Smeeny Made Wild (shown above) is another fast, fun Rasta project that lets you play with color. This beanie features simple yet striking stranded colorwork, and it's a perfect project for those of you looking to try your hands at a new technique. This beanie requires 2 skeins of Rasta, and we encourage you to try a variety of contrasting color combinations to really make it your own.
The Monster Cables Beanie by Cali Taylor is the perfect introduction to cables for a beginner/intermediate knitter. Super bulky Rasta is paired with simple instructions to create a beautiful pattern (not to mention a gorgeous, finished hat!). We bet that you'll get so comfortable with cables that you'll want to knit a Monster Cables Beanie for everyone you know. This pattern works best with a solid or semitonal skein of Rasta to really show off the stitch definition.
The Lasagna Cowl by Sandra Kwan is a thick and dense knit that will surely keep your neck warm! It's designed to stay in place to keep your nose, cheeks, ears, mouth and neck from the cold and wind. This clean lines design knits up quickly using 1 skein of Malabrigo Rasta yarn on US 17 needles. | The Saratoga Beanie by Aspen Leaf Knits is one of our favorite go-to patterns for keeping warm during the winter months. This reversible hat knits up quickly using 1 skein of Malabrigo Rasta, and the pattern includes instructions for 3 additional yarn weights! |
