Colorful Shawl Kits for Ito Yarns
Jun 24th 2024
We're huge fans of Cecelia Campochiaro's work, and are excited to be currently displaying 2 versions of her Colorwork Series No. 1 Shawl down at the shop. This generous and cheerful knit is the first of a series of marls-based colorwork shawls. Colorwork Series No. 1 uses ten base colors worked doubled to create marl stripes inspired by traditional colorwork knitting. The yarn is always held double (the working yardage is 1100 yds), and the pattern is an easy one to memorize using sequence knitting 1-row patterns.
The first version of this shawl (featured above) is knit using Ito Kinu; a 100% silk noil yarn (also called organic silk) produced from the leftovers of spun filament silk. Different colored fibers are blended to produce a mélange effect within each color. This all-purpose silk yarn has lovely feel, making it ideal for next-to-skin wear garments and accessories.

The second version of Colorwork Series No. 1 Shawl (featured above) is knit using Ito Sensai; a delicate a blend of mohair and silk that's luxurious and light as a feather. This version of the shawl boasts more vibrant color saturation and a subtle sheen, as well as the signature halo effect from the mohair.
Not sure which kit to choose? If you're local we encourage you to come down to the shop and feel the difference. If you're not local, don't worry - both versions are so stunning, you can't go wrong!
