Outside, the snow is falling, thick as a down comforter on the pavement. Inside, we are unpacking and stocking the shelves with fibers that speak to sitting by the lake and sipping iced tea while reapplying sunscreen... We've held out as long as we could, but Spring yarns are HERE!
One of the most unique yarns we've received so far has to be Ra-Ra Raffia from UK company Wool and the Gang. This 100% wood fiber yarn is lightweight yet durable, and is water repellent and quick-drying. Each... skein? Cylinder? Tower o' Yarn? has 274 yards of worsted weight fiber. Ra-Ra-Raffia is especially great in crochet projects, like the sunhat shown above, or a crochet bag or two-tone basket. Available in six colors.
Lang Mulberry Silk is another spring treat that has just arrived. The 100% Mulberry Silk yarn has a tempting sheen, and the gently dappled colors create stunning depth when knit. There are several designs for it in the new Fatto A Mano Collection #259, but our favorite is the open front cascading cardigan shown above. If a silk cardigan isn't the next thing on your wish-list, one ball would be enough for a sweet silky cowl, and two would make a lovely lacy scarf.
