Class Cecelia Campochiaro Workshop - Marling Introduction
Description
This class is an introduction to using marls as a design element in hand knitting. It will include how marled fabrics work, some of the practical challenges of working with marls, and many different ways to use marls for different visual effects. We will use the microswatching technique to understand how colors and texture blend and use them to design a small cowl using Ito Kinu silk noil yarn. The class requires a kit of 7 colors of Ito Kinu. The Kinu is worked as 2-strand marls, and this is enough yarn to make a generous shawl. There will be a new shawl pattern (TBD) included with the class!
Materials:
Students should have a kit of 7 cones of Ito Kinu (Kits will be available soon) and bring needles in US 3 (3.25 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) sizes. They can be circulars, straights or DPNs and they should have sharp tips like lace needles.
Skill Level:
Advanced beginners and beyond. Students must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase and decrease without help and should be able to read their knitting.
