Spotlight on Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Olga Buraya-Kefelian has been publishing knitwear designs as Olgajazzy since 2006. Her patterns are innovative, versatile and born out of natural curiosity for geometry, architecture and textile explorations. She's known for her stunning Origami and 3D knitwear, which is created with a series of techniques combined together with the right fiber to achieve high relief and intricate texture.
A great introduction into Olga's designs is the YABANE scarf. The shaping of this scarf is inspired by the feathers of Hamaya - a “demon-breaking arrow”, a decorative arrow sold at shrines during New Year celebrations to ward off misfortune and to attract good luck. The geometric look of the scarf is actually based on V-style pleats that occur in paper folding art of origami. The scarf can transform from a neat compact shape into multidimensional textured accessory.
YABANE was designed in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt yarn, and we highly recommend sticking with Olga's yarn recommendation to achieve the proper effect. We currently have 24 colors of Gilliatt in stock, giving you plenty of options to choose from. The YABANE pattern includes two length options - you'll need 2 balls of Gilliatt for the short version, or 3 balls for the long version (featured here).

One of our favorite Olga designs is the COMPLEAT cowl (featured above), which was designed in Wool Dreamers Mota yarn. If the YABANE scarf has intrigued you about 3D knitwear, this cowl makes a great next adventure into origami knitting, and is captivating yet easy to knit! Angular lines and textures are alternated for shaping to create pleated sections, which if worked continuously will result in a spiral look, and if alternated will produce a twisted look! After being washed and blocked, both versions will fold completely flat, just like a piece of paper; but one that you can style and wear with ease! The COMPLEAT cowl pattern includes directions for small and large sizes, with different height and pleat options (cowl shown above in size Large, short version, featuring Spiraling Twist Pleats).
Wool Dreamers is a mill based yarn company located in Mota del Cuervo, Spain. They source natural fibers cultivated throughout Spain to bring you uniquely beautiful and hearty materials for handwork. Mota is one of Wool Dreamers' most beloved collections which is made entirely in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha, and is named to honor their roots in the town of Mota del Cuervo. With the aim of supporting small wool producers and native breeds, Mota was developed as a collaboration with several local ranching families. The resulting yarn is a soft and lofty, 3ply DK-worsted fiber offered in a wide range of colors.
