Soft, Squishy, and Self-Striping
Sep 3rd 2025
For our 40 years as a shop, one of our core values has been a Focus on Natural Fibers, and that will never change. However, Fiber Arts Accessibility is another core value, and between changes in the economy, price inflation due to new tariffs, and the loss of the low price craft titan JoAnn's, we see the need to bend our rules. We swatched many yarns, and found a few that meet our quality standards at a value price point. We are pleased to announce that Sirdar Jewelspun is the newest addition to our shop!
First up in the Sirdar Jewelspun family we have Ombre, a genuine Sirdar yarn innovation. Aran weight Jewelspun Ombre boasts a stunning color effect featuring subtle shade transitions that will transform even the simplest of stitches into a stunning statement piece with colors that practically glow.
Each soft, irresistibly squishy ball of Jewelspun Ombre is 400 grams, and with a whopping 1093 yards per ball, you can achieve a true continuous ombre effect over large areas of knit or crochet fabric without having to join ball after ball of yarn. Jewelspun Ombre is a 100% acrylic yarn that's machine-washable, making it a fantastic option for baby blankets and easy care garments or accessories.
Sirdar's Event Edge to Edge Cardi (shown above in Jewelspun Ombre shade Crimson Sunset) is knit flat and then seamed. This classic cardigan offers a range of sizes from XS-XXXL, and is knit using only 1-2 balls for ALL SIZES. While we were already pretty smitten with this design because of the playful color changes, we love it even more knowing that it's an affordable project. The Event Edge to Edge Cardi is a great option for an everyday sweater project that doesn't break the bank, or if you plan on making a garment to gift this holiday season.
