Say Hello to Bread & Butter

We just wrapped up our October Retreat with Julie Weisenberger (creator of the Cocoknits Method), and after swooning over all of Julie's luscious sweater samples we're thrilled to announce that we now stock Bread & Butter yarns!
Bread & Butter is the sister company of A Verb for Keeping Warm, and shares Verb's ethos of attention to the health of the earth by being sourced domestically. Bread & Butter yarns are made from U.S. grown wool, and are dyed, spun and finished in the U.S. As the name implies, these yarns are staples with which to knit wearable and comforting garments, accessories, and home goods. Bread & Butter yarns are available in a palette inspired by Northern California flora, boasting slightly heathered hues that pair well together.
First in the Bread & Butter line up is Everyday; aptly named because it's perfect to use as your everyday yarn! Made of supersoft U.S. Merino wool, Everyday is a soft worsted weight yarn just begging to be made into cozy hats, mitts, scarves and sweaters. Round and bouncy, Bread & Butter Everyday yarn picks up stitch definition beautifully making it a great choice when knitting cables, brioche and ribbed stitch patterns. We currently have over 20 colors of Everyday in stock, so you're sure to find the perfect hue to cast on your next project.
The other yarn from Bread & Butter is Bun, a chunky weight, US Merino wool that's thick, soft, and oh-so cozy. Plus, it knits up in a hot second so you'll be wearing it in no time. Bun features 22 beautifully blended colors that Kristine, the co-owner of Verb, created and an undyed natural white (Soft Serve). This palette was influenced by her love of hiking, gardening, and living in the Bay Area, and the colors in it are designed to work well together for colorwork projects.

Maybe you're wondering what to make with Bread & Butter Everyday or Bun? While Julie was here at the shop last week, we got to see many of her fantastic sweater samples knit up in either Everyday worsted or chunky weight Bun, and we're here to say you HAVE to knit a Cocoknits Method sweater in one of these scrumptious yarns!
The Cocoknits Sweater Workshop book (featured above), teaches the Cocoknits Method; Julie's proprietary system for knitting top down, seamless sweaters using English tailoring, top down knitting and a signature Cocoknits Method Worksheet. Julie created the Cocoknits Method to combine the excellent fit of the 3-dimensional English tailored shoulder with the flexibility of allowing knitters to try on garments as they knit and customize along the way, ultimately achieving the fit and style that they want. The color-coded worksheet she developed allows knitters to map out the yoke increases and follow them line-by-line, instead of having to deal with confusing "at the same time" directions.
This book contains 8 patterns, a detailed description of the Cocoknits Method and step-by-step instructions for all techniques used, such as lifted increases. Below you'll find a few sweater patterns featured in the book to get you inspired, and we highly recommend joining Cocoknit's Everlasting Knit-a-Long (more on that below)!

It's a "choose your own adventure" of sorts, hosted by our friends over at Cocoknits - Julie even joins the KAL annually and knits another sweater.
