It's Time to Knit Sailor Slippers
Feb 17th 2026
If you're on social media, Ravelry, (or anywhere on the internet really), you've likely seen the adorable Sailor Slippers by Annie Germain of Annie Sews. This pattern has been a top project on Ravelry since its launch in October, and we have to admit that we're still obsessed. We sent out an email a few months ago when our staff member Sarah made her first pair, and promptly sold out of all the fun colors of Berroco Lanas Quick... but, guess what?!? This fantastically feltable yarn is finally back in stock!
Sarah made the pair pictured here, and shared some thoughts...
"While I don’t usually consider myself a knitter of footwear (hello, second sock syndrome), as soon as I saw Annie Germain's Sailor Slippers pattern popping up all over my feed, I knew I had to make a pair…. I’ll admit, I was a bit scared as I’ve never felted before, but it was so simple! And it turns out they’re INSANELY addicting to knit, and I might need to make about 10 more pairs."
See below for Sarah's before and after pics... felting really is magic!
Not sure where to start with your colors? Check out this sweet template Annie provided to test out some combinations! From there, we have 3 yarn suggestions that all felt beautifully, and we have lots of colors in stock... see below!
Whichever yarn you choose, you will need 1 skein each (100 grams) of 4 colors to make these slippers up to a women's size US 9.
Larger sizes will need 2 skeins for the main and sole colors.
Berroco Lanas Quick is our first choice, and is what Sarah used for her slippers. It knits quick, felts beautifully, and comes in a range of over 20 colors. At just $14 per skein, this is our most economical recommendation.
Malabrigo Chunky is another great choice, especially if you want more variegated yarn options! We have 25 colors in stock for your planning pleasure.
Finally, Lamb's Pride Bulky is a tried-and-true option when it comes to felting. While it does contain 15% mohair, that does not impede the feltability of this work-horse yarn, and we currently have over 30 colors in stock!
There is no right or wrong combination of colors... as you can see by Annie's collection above, the goal is to have fun! You can use worsted weight held double, or other bulky yarns... just remember they need to be wool, and NOT superwash!
