Mar 25th 2026
We have been longtime fans of Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s innovative approach to textured knits, and we're so thrilled to be bringing her to Southern Oregon next month for a retreat! We will explore the texture and construction of origami knitting with an artist whose name is synonymous with the form.
Once again our luxurious getaway in Southern Oregon will take place at The Winchester Inn, and can accommodate 23 Guests. This retreat was previously sold out, but we had a cancellation so there's currently 1 ticket available! Click here to secure your spot.
The Websters April Retreat 2026
Olga Buraya-Kefelian has been publishing knitwear designs as Olgajazzy since 2006. Her patterns are innovative, versatile and born out of natural curiosity for geometry, architecture and textile explorations. She's known for her stunning Origami and 3D knitwear, which is created with a series of techniques combined together with the right fiber to achieve high relief and intricate texture. While Olga's here in town for our retreat, she'll also be offering a day of in-store workshops for locals on April 27th.
Origami Knitting Introduction AM Session, 9:30am-1230pm
Learn about Origami knitting with Olga! She will present her 3D knitwear design philosophy, geared toward your own discovery of origami knitwear. This class will try their hands at some paper folding and learn about aspects of translating it into knitwear by either working with swatches or by casting on and working on the Miura Cowl (featured in the image show above).

Origami Knitting Full Day Workshop, 9:30am-12:30pm & 1:30-4:30pm
The Full Day Workshop includes the morning session on Origami Knitting, as well as lunch with Olga and an afternoon session on Origami Knitting. In Part 2 of our Origami knitting instruction, we continue to explore further with fibers and yarns to achieve texture in hand knitting. We will use more intricate techniques and their combinations to offer elasticity and malleability in order to create structured, crisp lines reminiscent of the ancient art of paper folding or any other geometric iterations. Students can choose to swatch or cast on and put their newfound knowledge to practice by working on the YABANE Cowl pattern to make their own wearable origami accessory.

Whether you choose to resgister for the Origami Knitting Introduction AM Session or the Full Day Workshop, we highly recommend purchasing supplies ahead of time to knit the Miura Cowl. This piece is named after Miura-ori, a folding method of origami tessellations. A trick to one’s eye, architectural and flexible, yet simple as this negative and positive spacing is created by angled texture of basic stitches.
This cowl calls for 200 yards of of any sport weight, non-superwash wool, and Olga recommends De Rerum Natura Ulysse Yarn. This light and delicately fluffy Merino wool yarn is currently in stock in over 30 colors, and you'll need just 1 ball to knit Miura.

If you sign up for Olga's Full Day Workshop, you'll also want to purchase yarn for the YABANE cowl (featured above). The geometric look of the cowl is actually based on V-style pleats that occur in paper folding art of origami. The cowl can transform from a neat compact shape into multidimensional textured accessory.
The YABANE cowl was designed in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt yarn, and we highly recommend sticking with Olga's yarn recommendation to achieve the proper effect. We currently have over 20 colors of Gilliatt in stock, giving you plenty of options to choose from. The YABANE cowl pattern includes two size options - and you'll need 2 balls of Gilliatt regardless of which one you choose!

A helpful Origami knitting tip from Olga....
If you've had a chance to visit our shop in Ashland, you already know knitting is a way of life for our talented and dedicated staff. We've decided to put our knitting needles to work for an incredible cause again April 11th, and we need your help!
The Knit for Food knit-a-thon is a 12 hour knitting marathon to raise funds and awareness for food insecurity. 100% of funds raised will be equally divided between Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels. This is our second year participating in Knit for Food, and we've set up Team Websters again - lead by our staffer Sarah, who has committed to knitting for the cause. There are two ways to support the Knit for Food knit-a-thon: You can donate OR you can sign up to knit/craft for 12 hours!
Please click the button below to join us on Team Websters, donate to the cause, or to simply learn more about this year's Knit for Food knit-a-thon.

Hey Locals! We'd love for you to come out and join Team Websters for an afternoon of crafting on April 11th, even if you're not doing the whole marathon. We'll be hosting a public meet-up at Clyde's Corner from 12-4pm. Out of respect for our friends over at Clyde's, we need an accurate headcount for our meet-up, so please RSVP here if you plan on joining. Our group table reservation is limited to 15 people; thanks for understanding, and we hope to see you there!
