Get Cozy: Sweater Weather is Here!

Get Cozy: Sweater Weather is Here!

Nov 1st 2025

Autumn's chill settled in this week in Southern Oregon, and it's got us embracing all things cozy.  As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, there's nothing quite like the feeling of curling up on a Saturday morning to swatch for a new sweater project with a warm cup of tea and a cozy scented candle. Feeling inspired? Let’s make this weekend all about comfort, creativity, and a little bit of cozy magic! We've rounded up a curated collection of sweater patterns featuring our new favorite yarns from De Rerum Natura, as well as our most indulgent teas and candles to help you set the vibe.

De Rerum Natura was founded in 2012 with the goal to create high quality, sustainable yarns. They source their wool from Arles Merino sheep in France and black Merinos in Portugal, focusing on natural colors and gentle processing to preserve the wool's qualities. We recently stocked up on three of their bases; Gilliatt, Ulysse, and Berenice. While you're sipping your morning coffee or tea, we encourage you to read on and explore these amazing yarns.

Gilliatt is named after the beautiful, stubborn and constructive hero of Victor Hugo's The Toilers of the Sea. This woolen spun yarn made from a blend of white French Mérinos d'Arles and black Portuguese Merino raised with a concern for the well-being of the animals. All the manufacturing stages of this yarn are carried out in a short circuit (France and Portugal for sourcing, Belgium or Italy for washing, France for spinning and dyeing) with a constant desire for traceability and to reduce its impact on the environment. Gilliatt is available in a few natural/undyed colors resulting from the blend of brown and white fleeces (Sel, Poivre Blanc, Poivre et Se, and Poivre), and in a range of subtly heathered and dyed in fleece colors.

Made up of three well-twisted strands, worsted weight Gilliatt is a round, soft and satisfying fluffy yarn which is perfect for knitting everything from endless stockinette to intricate cables. It's a yarn that easily forgives irregularities, doesn't split and stays securely on the needles, making it an excellent choice for beginners as well as seasoned knitters. Each 100g ball of Gilliatt boasts an impressive 270 yards, and we currently have 24 colors in stock.

Emily Greene's Citrine is a perfect wear-everywhere pullover, with a relaxed, drop shouldered silhouette, close-fitting long sleeves, and a slightly scooped neckline. With its relaxed style, easy fit, and architectural details, Citrine is an elevated basic that’s likely to replace your favorite comfy sweatshirt. Knit in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, you'll need 4-8 balls to complete this project.  "Zakkuri" means casual, comfortable, thick fabric" in Japanese, and as the name implies, this plush cardigan has a relaxed fit. The Zakkuri Cardigan, designed by Noriko Ichikawa, is knit from the top down, and the buttonholes are made after completion. Knit in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, you'll need 5-7 balls to complete this project.

Sarah's Yarn of the Month is De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, and she's currently knitting Caitlin Hunter's Winter Albina sweater.

"I absolutely LOVE every stitch of knitting with Gilliatt! The bouncy, almost elastic, feel of this woolen spun yarn is a joy to work with - I'm already planning to cast on another sweater with one of De Rerum Natura's yarns next."

Ulysse is named after the hero of Homer's "Odyssey", who fell in love with Penelope. Ulysse is, like its big brother Gilliatt, a woolen spun yarn made from a blend of white French Mérinos d'Arles and black Portuguese Merino. Made up of two well-twisted strands, Ulysse is a light, soft and delicately fluffy yarn which is perfect for Fair Isle, but also delicate cables or beautifully rustic lace. Each 50g ball of sport weight Ulysse has 202 yards, and we currently have over 30 stunning shades in stock.

We love Ulysse in Clarice, this stunning stranded colorwork yoke sweater designed by Nadia Crétin-Léchenne. This seamless sweater is knit top down in the round, and you'll need to choose a main color and two contrast colors for this project.  The Back Yoke Sweater by Noriko Ichikawa features a split yoke on the back which extends from the back to the sleeves, creating a casual and comfortable silhouette. The length is slightly cropped to complement the roomy body - but it’s knit top down so you can easily adjust it.

One of our favorite ways to set the mood is to light a cozy candle, and the Autumn Collection from Wax and Wool does not disappoint. Ranging from classics like Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon Chai to more nuanced fragrances like Hibernate, these hand poured candles are sure to bring fall's whimsy into every room in your home.

Wax and Wool Autumn Collection Scents

Autumn Leaves builds on a base of aromatic woodsmoke with layers of warm vanilla and nutmeg, topped off with sophisticated notes of tonka and a hint of sweet cream.

Cinnamon Chai is a blend of cinnamon, black tea, and chai spices that embodies everything we love about the season… and one of our favorite fall beverages!

Flannel Blanket features complex, warm spices blended with mellowing cocoa butter, cedarwood, amber and musk. Layers of saffron and patchouli are added to round out this cozy and unique scent.

Hibernate is inspired by the dream of a cozy, autumnal cabin in the woods - a place we all long to retreat to with our books, our knitting, and plenty of tea.

Pumpkin Spice is a classic blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, baked pumpkin, and vanilla updated to make it slightly less sweet, and a hint more on the spicy side.

Spiced Cider is a classic hot apple cider with lots of spice and a hint of earthiness to ground this traditionally sweet scent.

Last on our list of things to help get you cozied up for a weekend of knitting is a cup of tea, and Steven Smith Teamaker's Autumn Leaves is the perfect tea to turn to as the weather starts to turn. Rich, full leaves of Yunnan black tea give you smooth, round pumpkin notes, warmed by ancho chile and cinnamon, clove and ginger.

Whether you're a temperature blanket pro, new to the process, or looking for an unscripted project that literally changes with the weather, we invite you to join our 2026 Temperature Blanket Make-a-Long!

Come down to the shop TOMORROW, Sunday, Nov, 2nd, at 4:30pm for a planning party with Paula and Sarah. We'll have pattern suggestions (crochet and knit options available), provide you with a temperature scale worksheet, and help you choose your yarn and color palette. We recommend using a machine washable, worsted weight yarn like Berroco Vintage or Berroco Ultra Wool for this project.

This Make-a-Long will run through the entire year of 2026, and we highly encourage you to attend our monthly MAL meetups. Having the support and encouragement of your local crafting community is a great way to stay on track, even when life gets busy. Thursday, January 8th at 5:30pm will be our first Team Temperature Blanket check-in. Beginning in February, we'll be having regular MAL check-ins down at the shop the first Thursday of every month from 5:30-7:30pm.

Not local? Don't worry! Even if you can't join our in-person planning party, you can still participate from afar - just pick you preferred knit or crochet pattern and get started. January 1st., Paula and Sarah will be sharing their blanket progress online throughout the year, and we'd love to see your progress too - don't forget to tag us on IG @yarnatwebsters
