Autumn Sweater Knitspiration
Oct 3rd 2024
Here in Southern Oregon those crisp Autumn mornings are finally upon us, which means it's officially time to cast on a new sweater project. Grab a cup of coffee, get cozy, and keep reading to see a few of our favorite knits from Rowan Magazine 76.
Told through one captivating story, ‘Heritage’, Magazine 76 celebrates the heartland of Rowan. The seasonal and ever-changing landscape of Yorkshire, the home of Rowan, is the inspiration and backdrop to this carefully crafted story of beautiful knits. From charming stone buildings to the bracken and heather of the open moors, the instantly recognizable landscape is synonymous with Rowan. Featured designers in this issue use Alpaca Classic, Alpaca Soft DK and Felted Tweed to tell the Heritage story through texture and colorwork.
This wide, cropped cardigan from Martin Storey is a sophisticated Fair Isle knit. Using just two contrasting shades of Felted Tweed, Hunslet's bold patterning, which is inspired by Welsh blankets, is very eye-catching while also being an interesting, rhythmic knit. A deep v-neck and simple button band neatly finish off this beautiful design.

The thoughtful Bankfield sweater by Erika Knight uses the intarsia technique to create a patchwork detail throughout the body, sleeves and trim. Lines of running stitch have then been used to embellish the patches, giving a further nod to the handmade. Knitted using six shades of Felted Tweed, this interesting knit reminds us of the unique beauty of handcrafted garments.
