A New Fave from Denmark: Isager Baby
Apr 8th 2025
A note from the owner:
What follows is a lovely email about a new yarn from Isager, written as we listen to stories about upcoming tariffs, and the instability of international trade. The yarn industry is truly a global one, with so many of our favorites coming from Europe, Turkey, Uruguay, Japan, Canada, Great Britain, and so many more...
I admit, it has me worried.
The truth is we don't know what this means... for us, for so many of our brands, and for you, our customers. I just wanted to take a moment to say we will continue to make the best choices we can with the information we have, do our very best to provide you with the variety of quality products you love, with a range of price points that keeps crafting accessible to all. There will certainly be changes, both in availability and in pricing, and we will do our best to be transparent with you while we work through this new reality.
As always, we are so incredibly grateful for your support these last 4 decades, and it is our hope to continue to be your Local Yarn store for many years to come.
Happy Making ~ Laurel
Spring is the perfect time to knit for the sweet little babies in our lives, don't you think? Whether it's crib blankets, cute little hats or tiny sweaters, baby knits are quick and satisfying projects that are sure to put a smile on your face. As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, there’s no better way to celebrate the spring season than by creating handknit heirlooms that can be cherished for generations to come.
Our current obsession for soft and squishy baby projects is Isager Baby yarn, a supersoft, blend of organic pima cotton and baby alpaca. The modern palette of Isager Baby features a handful of softly dyed colors, as well as a few undyed shades where the color comes from natural variations in the alpaca fiber. This yarn is ideal for babies (or anyone with sensitive skin) because it is Oeko Tex standard 100 certified. Read on to view a few of our favorite baby projects featuring Isager Baby; we bet you'll get inspired to give at least one a try!
The Raunioiset Mini Cardigan by Suvi Lyytikäinen is a sweet as can be garter stitch sweater with a yoke of fern inspired cables. We love everything about this design, from the top down seamless construction to the tidy i-cord edges.

Going to a baby shower this spring? Ellen’s Coming Home Set by PetiteKnit is a perfect gift to knit. This precious 3 piece set includes the patterns for a wrap-style jacket, pants and a bonnet (not shown here). The jacket is worked back and fourth from the top-down, and the button bands are worked in one piece with the jacket - meaning you don't have to pick up stitches at the end! The pants are worked top-down and shaped with short rows in the back to provide ample room for diapers.
