Sustainable Knits for Summer
Jun 16th 2025
Summer yarns are arriving here by the boxload daily, and our most recent arrival was a restock from Knitting for Olive. Knitting for Olive is a mother-daughter team based in Copenhagen, Denmark. This family run business is focused on creating knitting patterns and high-quality yarn with respect for animals and the environment. Their brand is full of ethically sourced fibers, inspiring colors, and timeless patterns.
Knitting for Olive's Cotton Merino (featured above) is one of our favorite yarns for summer projects. Cotton Merino is a heavenly blend of 70% organic, OCS certified cotton and 30% RWS certified Merino wool. It’s the perfect warm weather blend; pairing the breathable qualities of cotton with Merino, which makes the yarn elastic and easier to use then traditional cotton yarns (your hands will thank you, trust us!).
Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino yarn is a fingering weight, making it perfect for knitting this season's most coveted tanks and tees. Here are a few of our favorite Cotton Merino pattern ideas to help inspire your new handknit summer wardrobe.

Another luscious option for knitting summer tops is Knitting for Olive Pure Silk. Pure Silk was the first yarn we tried from Knitting for Olive, and it was love at first stitch. This raw silk fingering weight yarn is ethically produced, OEKO-TEX certified, and is ALSO an incredible value at just $13 for 270+ yards!
The Fern Tee by Pernille Larsen (shown above) is knit using Knitting for Olive Pure Silk yarn, creating an effortlessly airy fabric that floats over your skin. This simple, feminine short-sleeved blouse is worked in the round from the top down, and features an allover textured pattern with elegant i-cord edges to give the blouse a clean finish.
Pssst! Want to know something special about the yarns in this email? They're both fingering weight and have the exact same yardage per ball, so you can use either one for any pattern featured. And, because we just can't help ourselves, we've gone ahead and rounded up a few more inspiring warm weather knits featuring Knitting for Olive Pure Silk (or Cotton Merino!) below.
