Quilting Inspired Knits
Mar 10th 2025
As avid knitters, many of us haven't found time to learn the art of quilting - instead, we've rounded up our favorite quilting inspired knitting patterns that are sure to have you grabbing your needles for a new cast on. These patterns incorporate the intricate designs and textures typically found in quilts, allowing us to explore a different creative avenue while still enjoying the comfort of knitting. Featuring colorful patchwork motifs reminiscent of quilted fabrics, these designs are not only visually stunning but also offer a fun challenge for knitters looking to expand their skills.
The first in our lineup is the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan by Katryn Seeburger. Using a block construction, this design is intended to focus on color and pattern to lead to a timeless piece intended to be handed down. Each block is a chance to try something new, to combine different colors, to start again. While this pattern was designed using fingering weight yarn held double to achieve a DK weight gauge, we recommend knitting your Heirloom Quilt Cardigan in Rowan's DK weight Felted Tweed yarn. This rustic blend of merino wool, alpaca and viscose is available in a wide range of colors (we currently have over 50 in stock!), making it perfect for creating your ideal cardigan palette.

The design for Clint by Natasja Hornby was inspired by the ancient art of quilting, transformed into a modern, wearable shawl. Each block is knit modularly, attaching to the main body as you go, simplifying construction and making it portable and manageable for on-the-go knitting. Knit entirely in garter stitch, this project suits most skill levels. The rhythmic garter stitch provides a soothing knitting experience, while the modular construction keeps it engaging and fun. Unleash the artist within you, and create a unique heirloom piece that reflects your personal style!
While there are many yarns that would work well for this shawl, we love the idea of knitting it in Quince & Co. Finch yarn. Finch is a supple fingering weight yarn with a slight halo that is soft to the touch. Its neatly twisted plies give it a smooth, tailored finish that is sturdy and hardwearing, but also soft enough for next to skin wear. We currently have 25 colors of Finch in stock, so there's plenty of inspiration when planning your Clint shawl.

Last on our quilting inspired list are the Log Cabin Mitts by Karen Templer. In this pattern you’ll knit a pair of semi-traditional log cabin squares, then use a clever combination of joinery and miter techniques common to log cabin knitting to transform those squares into a unique pair of fingerless gloves.
The Log Cabin Mitts are knit in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, a rustic worsted weight Targhee-Columbia wool yarn that offers remarkable warmth and lightness. The pattern is written for three colors in a particular arrangement, but we encourage you to get creative and distribute the colors as you like. This garter stitch pattern is so addicting, we doubt you'll want to knit just one pair!
