We love when a yarn company has a story, and we found one that has that and more; Mitchell Wool Co. It started with a Michigan family farm helping another family farm, and has grown into so much more. They launched their own farm grown, plant dyed yarn in 2021, then decided that the only way to change the greater narrative was to make an impact beyond their own fences - so American Fiber by Mitchell Wool Co was born in November of 2023.

Mitchell Wool Co is committed to conscious crafting, offering chemical-free plant dyed yarns from sustainably raised traceable American flocks. Their mission is to keep American wool on US shores, processed in US mills, and in the hands of American makers. Mitchell Wool Co is about knowing where your family farm grown yarn comes from. Lets talk more about the yarn - made of of 18 micron ultrafine American Rambouillet, it's raised lamb to skein in the USA and then hand dyed on the farm using sustainably harvested plants, insects, and food waste. Each skein has been mordanted to lock in color as much as possible, but it's important to note that natural dyes are like snowflakes - each skein will vary and you should alternate skeins throughout your piece to achieve a subtle blend. Do not dry or store in direct sun. Hand wash and care for it like the heirloom it is. Natural dyes soften and fade like your favorite jeans, getting softer in hue with time. This is not a defect. It's nature.

These non-superwash yarns are super soft, making them great for next to skin wear. We currently stock Mitchell Wool Co American Fiber in fingering and DK weight skeins.
